The corridor stretches from Guatemala to Panama, a region with 40 million population and more than 3% annual economic growth.

The initiative aims to integrate more power from wind, solar, biomass, hydro and geothermal into the existing Central American Electrical Interconnection System.

Irena notes that the recently completed 1,800km (1,118 mile) transmission line is underutilized, “presenting a clear opportunity for the deployment of more renewable energy in the region.”
