Broadwind’s bottom line recovered thanks in part to “significantly improved operating efficiencies” at the Chicago-based company’s tower factory in Abilene, Texas, which has been plagued with problems in recent years. The company owns a second factory in Wisconsin.

“Broadwind is off to a solid start in 2016, nearly doubling our order intake compared to [the first quarter of 2015] and generating $3m of free cash flow during the quarter,” says interim chief executive Stephanie Kushner.

“Our
