With spot market prices at a sky-high R$388 ($121) per MWh and hydropower reservoir levels at record lows — resulting in a 20% average increase in electricity bills this year alone — contracting wind power under R$200/MWh makes sense for industrial consumers.
“Wind is now cheap enough and the technology has matured enough in Brazil for industries to look seriously at it,” says Mario Menel, executive secretary of the Brazilian association of producers of energy for self-consumption, Abiape.
“Wind
