Turbine manufacturers, which already face swelling costs in Brazil, might face an increase of 14-25% in import taxes designed to favour local production.
Electricity rates sought at federal wind tenders would need to rise to R$140 ($68.70) per MWh, from an average of R$106/MWh last December, as a result of the tax, estimates one industry source. The ceiling rate set by the government for the A-3 tender in December is R$112/MW.
