Following a presidential decree, state environmental authorities will complete already-initiated licensing processes, but renewals will have to be handled by federal authorities.
The decree covers all generation and transmission projects considered essential to guarantee power supply or which link strategic assets. Thermoelectric and hydro-power projects with capacities of 300MW or more will also now be licensed by the federal government.
Aside from power, the new decree makes the federal government responsible for specific new and expansion projects covering ports, oil and gas, road, rail and waterways.
