One study found that to increase power flow capacities between the two regions, at least 4,087km (2,539 miles) of 500kV transmission lines and four substations, as well as other infrastructure, are required.
In a second study, EPE recommends about R$639m investment to expand 500kV transmission links by 1,240km and 230kV capacity lines by 241km. The proposed investment would include expansion of 12 substations in Piauí, Maranhão and Ceara states.
