In a brief statement, Brazil's mines and energy minister Eduardo Braga said studies are under way to include in the bidding process for wind projects the construction of transmission lines and necessary connection infrastructure.
Currently, wind developers have to invest in the local grid connection and guarantee that their projects will be able to link to existing substations. The changes could raise the investment burden on wind developers, who could now have to help fund the building of substations and transmission lines over hundred of kilometres.
