The North Lease Area (OCS-A 0499) comprises 183,353 acres (74,160 ha) and the South Lease Area (OCS-A 0498) covers 160,480 acres (69,944 ha). Both tracts are located within a Wind Energy Area that BOEM has delineated in consultation with the state.
About 90% of the Wind Energy Area is located in water depths of less than 30-meters, well-within the range of ocean floor-mounted turbine foundations now in use in Europe and elsewhere.
