"Our decision to more than double our financing in the renewable energy sector and to reinforce our carbon risk management procedures is both an environmental and economic necessity," said Jean-Laurent Bonnafé, chief executive of BNP Paribas.

BNP Paribas is already very active in Green energy financing. Recently, it has acted as financial advisor to the £1.5bn ($1.97bn) Galloper offshore wind project off the UK and is among a consortium of institutions backing the construction of Belgium's 165MW Nobelwind offshore wind project.
