Built in sections at the former Nasa Michoud facility in New Orleans and Blade Dynamics' Southampton manufacturing centre in southern England, the 78-metre prototype is a pioneering "advanced assembly" concept expected to be key to the development of 200-metre-plus diameter rotors for 10MW and larger offshore turbines.
"All the technology behind this blade has been developed in-house by Blade Dynamics," says chief executive Pepe Carnevale.
