Avangrid aims to take advantage of PTC extension

Avangrid – the recently launched, Iberdrola-backed US utility – will bring 746MW of new wind capacity online by the end of 2017, and build out as much of its 5.9GW pipeline as possible under the newly-extended production tax credit (PTC), executives said Tuesday.

In 2016 Avangrid will commission its 208MW Desert Wind project in North Carolina. The project, also known as Amazon Wind Farm US East, will be the first utility-scale wind farm built in the state – and among the first in the US southeast.

Desert Wind will be followed in 2017 by the 298MW El Cabo project in New Mexico, the 131MW Tule in California, the 79MW Twin Buttes in Colorado, and the 30MW Deerfield in Vermont.
