In 2014, 411MW of new wind power capacity was added in the Alpine country, up from 308MW in 2013, Austrian wind energy association IG Windkraft said.

That brought its accumulated capacity to 2.1GW. Last year 7.2% of Austria's electricity consumption was generated by wind turbines.

That was far lower than the world's front-runner Denmark, which provided 39% of its electricity from wind, but was already in line with leading wind countries such as the UK, where 9.3%
