Australian regulator calls for 6GW of new RE capacity to hit 2020 target

Australia needs to install 6GW of renewable-energy capacity, with wind likely to account for 75% of new additions, to hit the government’s revised large-scale Renewable Energy Target (RET) by the end of this decade, according to the country’s Clean Energy Regulator.

In its annual report, the regulator described the progress made in 2015 as satisfactory, given that investment plummeted while the government of former Prime Minister Tony Abbott placed the RET under review.

“This past year included a significant turning point for the Renewable Energy Target (RET),” said Chloe Munro, chair of Australia's Clean Energy Regulator. “We are beginning to see confidence return to the market.”
