Supporters of renewables claimed the Queensland report blasts a hole in criticism that over-reliance on wind and other clean-energy sources was a key factor in the South Australia outage, which left that state's entire 1.7 million population without power when a storm badly damaged its grid infrastructure in late September.

Queensland energy minister Mark Bailey said: "Consideration of electricity network security and affordability were central to the draft report, which found that Queensland can meet a 50% renewable energy target while maintaining electricity security and reliability over the next 14 years."
