Unveiled last year, the Clean Power Plan (CPP) – a priority of the Obama administration – is a game changer for the US power sector, giving a big long-term boost to clean sources like renewables and throwing up tremendous headwinds for dirty sources like coal.
The Environmental Protection Agency will finalise the CPP’s rules this August, with states then given another year to organise their strategies for meeting their individual targets, which collectively will lower US power sector emissions 30% on 2005 levels by 2030.
