The wind farm in Perquimans and Pasquotank counties, called the Amazon Wind Farm US East, is expected to deliver 670GWh annually when it is up and running.
Actual physical construction by Iberdrola Renewables will begin in mid-August on the 104-turbine, 208MW first phase of what is planned as a 300MW development. Gamesa will supply its 2MW, G114 turbines.
Plans call for commercial operation before the end of 2016, which will enable the project to qualify for the federal production tax credit.
