The team at the engineering centre, which was opened in July 2012, had developed SHI’s giant 7MW turbine prototype, which the company deployed in Methil, Scotland.
Samsung announced earlier this year that it had launched a “strategic review” of its offshore wind operations and halted plans to test its 7MW drive train at the UK’s National Renewable Energy Centre (NAREC).
The indefinite timetable of the review, which was first reported by Recharge, means Samsung will not be placed to compete for the big UK Round 3 turbine contracts up for grabs soon.
