Wärtsilä will handle ship design, electrical power generation, propulsion machinery and high-end automation, while Aker will supply a continuous hydraulic jacking system for the unit’s truss legs.
The jack-up, which is designed to operate year-round in water depths ranging from 4.5-50 metres, will be able to transport three foundations or five complete 5MW wind turbine assemblies. It will use its own 1,000-tonne gantry crane during offshore wind farm construction.
