The Spanish manufacturer said it has 552MW of orders lined up for the turbine, which has a 125-metre rotor.
The first unit is on a 120-metre concrete tower at Acciona’s Vedadillo experimental site in Navarra, Spain.
It will be used to help Acciona carry out testing for type certification, which is expected to be complete by the first quarter of 2015.
The AW125/3000 was announced in 2013 as an evolution of Acciona’s AW116/3000 model.
