Acciona Energía, the Acciona Group unit that develops, builds and maintains wind farms, was awarded a 15-year offtake agreement to sell 587.5GWh of wind power annually.
The El Cortijo project, located 40km south of Reynosa in Tamaulipas state, will enter construction next year and is due for completion in mid-2018.
Acciona is already a major player in Mexico’s wind market. It currently owns and operates 557MW of capacity in the country, including four wind farms in Oaxaca, which accounts for 20% of the Mexico’s existing wind capacity.
