Most of the world’s top wind-power countries experienced slower-than-normal wind speeds in 2016, according to analysis by US consultancy AWS Truepower.
Of the 20 nations with the most installed wind — representing 95% of global capacity — only four experienced above-average winds — Brazil (4.4% higher than the 1988-2014 mean), Portugal (1.8%), Australia (1.8%) and Mexico (1.6%).
While Southern Europe experienced wind speeds in line with expectations, the northern half of the continent had a dreadful year overall, according to the Wind Trends Bulletin for 2016.
