Mexico's inaugural auction last month took the renewable energy sector by surprise – not just because bidding was far more aggressive than expected, but because solar power was sold at a price below wind.
This was not the first time that PV power has come out cheaper than wind in Latin America. In the Chilean auction last year, some bidders signed long-term solar PPAs at prices below wind.
