The 23.2GW erected last year almost matched the entire capacity added across Europe, North America and South America. And analysts expect China to eclipse its own record this year, with as much as 25GW.
Yet it is far from clear if such high rates of installation are sustainable. The local industry is facing significant challenges that seem likely to reduce developers’ rates of return and could derail the country’s ambitious wind-power plans.
