Borkum Riffgrund 1, located some 55km from the island of Borkum, uses 77 monopile foundations. Its 78th is the first ever use of suction bucket foundation technology.
Dong said it is now considering the possibility of deploying suction buckets at its 450MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 and UK Hornsea projects.
