Royal told France 3 television that investments in reactors at the oldest nuclear plants don’t last forever and that “you have to re-invest and that is very expensive”.
With 58 reactors, France is the most dependent country in the world on nuclear, with the state-owned utility EDF being the biggest operator.
Royal has recently announced a target of 40% renewables in the country’s electricity mix by 2030, and a 32% goal for their share of total energy consumption.
