In late 2010, Van Oord handed the order for Aeolus to Hamburg-based JJ Sietas, Germany’s oldest shipyard, with an option on a second identical vessel.
The order was seen as a significant boost for Europe’s beleaguered shipbuilding industry, with most modern offshore wind vessels being built at Asian yards.
Originally, Sietas claimed it would deliver the jack-up vessel in September 2012.
