Dominion Energy has begun construction on the onshore phase of its two-turbine, 12MW wind pilot off the coast of Virginia, the first step toward 2GW or more of potential generation capacity in relatively shallow Atlantic Ocean waters.
Dominion held a ceremony to break ground in Virginia Beach where it will install a half-mile (0.8km) long conduit to hold the final segment of electric power export cables from the turbines 27 miles at sea.
