As foreign turbine makers operating in Brazil start talks with government officials over making the country’s wind power sector more open to imports, WEG – the only Brazilian OEM – is making a lone stand in favour of maintaining robust local content requirements.

“We are in favour of modernising the rules, but any easing of [the regulations] must be carried out with care so that we don’t hurt existing contracts,” says João Paulo Gualberto, director of wind and renewables at WEG.
