Maine’s new governor Janet Mills has signed an executive order scrapping a ban on the state issuing new permits for wind energy projects in areas with the best resources, in a move that could end several years of industry stagnation there.

The directive by Mills, a Democrat who took office 6 January, repeals former Republican governor Paul LePage’s controversial January 2018 order halting permits for new projects in coastal and western regions of Maine, along with avian migratory routes.
