Calpine Corp. and NRG Energy have asked Texas utility regulators to change how transmission costs are allocated among power generators, a move that would likely increase the price of electricity from wind and solar farms located far from major population centres.
They want the Public Utility Commission to end current rules where all generators equally share the cost of power that dissipates as heat as electrons move across transmission lines regardless of distance.
