The CEO of ScottishPower Renewables – whose parent utility this week sold its remaining gas generation assets to go 100% wind – said access to the UK’s contract-for-difference (CfD) support mechanism is “absolutely critical” for large-scale expansion onshore.

Lindsay McQuade told Recharge the CfD auction process – from which onshore wind is currently mostly locked out – is “fundamental” in giving consumers access to low-cost green power, and developers and investors a route to market.
