Denton Municipal Electric (DME) will soon request proposals for 100MW capacity of wind from the Gulf coast and/or solar, an indication that public power buyers are looking to bypass transmission congestion and curtailment issues in the Panhandle and parts of West Texas.

The upcoming solicitation is the first made public by a smaller muni to specify physical delivery of electric power from that region of Texas where the wind resource is generally not as strong than the Panhandle but tracks the power demand curve just as well.
