Xcel Energy, which has more wind on its system than any other US utility, says it bought enough Vestas turbines in 2016 to qualify 2.5GW of capacity at future wind farms for the full production tax credit (PTC).

Xcel is the latest major US buyer of wind turbines to confirm that it placed a huge order in late 2016 to beat the PTC deadline, joining developers like EDF Renewable Energy, Berkshire Hathaway Energy and NextEra Energy Resources—the latter of which qualified 10GW of future capacity.
