The offshore wind sector in Sweden has suffered another setback as the government has rejected to grant a permit for the up to 2.5GW Blekinge offshore array that was pre-developed by a group led by Eolus Vind since 2007 and could have met about 5% of the Nordic country’s electricity needs.

The area for the planned wind park some 5 kms off the southern Swedish town of Hanö is a strategically important practice area for the Armed Forces, environment minister Carolina Skog is quoted as saying on the government’s website when explaining why an environmental permit couldn’t be granted.
