A new US government report suggests that behind-the-meter distributed wind could play a “substantive role” in the nation’s electricity future – perhaps as much as 3.9GW in 2030 and nearly 20GW by 2050 in a high-end scenario.
Despite rapid expansion in the utility-scale US wind industry (74GW through the end of 2015), behind-the-meter distributed wind has lagged, according to the report,Assessing the Future of Distributed Wind: Opportunities for Behind-the-Meter Projects.
