Immediately after the auction – in which prices averaged at R$181/MWh ($52/MWh), the president of Brazil's federal energy planning authority EPE, Maurício Tolmasquim was quick to tell Recharge: “We will calibrate the price [for the next auction] to contract more wind power”.

In November, Brazilian wind power developers will have a second chance to sell more power. Two months later, they will have yet another window of opportunity since the government has already scheduled the first A-5 auction for January 2016, which will contract wind and other technologies for 2021.
