The Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) will take over the assets of Wave Hub – a 20MW “socket” 16km off the coast of Cornwall designed to trial wave-energy conversions systems – from the South West Regional Development Agency (RDA) on 1 January.
Day-to-day operation of the centre will be run through a stand-alone company, also called Wave Hub.
The UK government has been discussing Wave Hub's future since the closure of the RDA was confirmed last summer.
