The device, a 12-tonne ‘socket’ into which as many as four wave energy converters (WECs) can be plugged for testing, is travelling out onboard the Nordica installation vessel, which will at the same time lay the 25 kilometre-long cable that will link Wave Hub to its grid-connected onshore substation.
“Nordica’s arrival marks the start of the Wave Hub deployment operation and they will begin work straight away,” says Guy Lavender, Wave Hub general manager at the South West Regional Development Agency (SWRDA),
