The prototype of a giant star-shaped 1.5MW wave machine that promises at least double the generation efficiency of the sector’s current front-running devices is moving swiftly towards construction.
Plans are taking shape at Singapore’s Hann-Ocean Technology to float its Drakoo-3 off Scotland’s Orkney Islands at the European Marine Energy Centre (Emec) in final trials next year.
The machine will be based on the latest iteration of a wave-energy converter (WEC) concept that has been in development for three years.
