The first (400MW) of six turbines at the 2.4GW Son La station was connected to the national grid last Friday, according to Hoang Trong Nam, director of the plant’s management board.
The Southeast Asia’s biggest hydroelectric power plant costs about $2bn to build, and is expected to be fully operational by 2012, three years ahead of a target set by Vietnam’s National Assembly.
