The A$500,000 project, which will bring together specialists from Murdoch University in Perth, NCED and the local and international water industries, is seen by wave-power developer Carnegie as a “timely stepping stone” in commercialising Ceto.
The underwater system is made up of an array of submerged buoys tethered to seabed-anchored pumping units.
The buoys sway with the motion of the passing waves, driving the pumps to pressurise water that is delivered ashore via a pipeline.
