Trade group RenewableUK is asking the DECC to set aside £70m for marine renewables from its £200m Low Carbon Innovation Fund, arguing that the UK risks losing the global lead it has with the technology.
Funding is a critical question for Marine Current Turbines (MCT), which last week secured a lease from the Crown Estate for a four-turbine tidal farm in Kyle Rhea, a strait between the Isle of Skye and the Scottish mainland.
