The cash injection, amount undisclosed, is expected to pave the way for a full-scale, 70-metre-wide prototype of the company’s seabed-mounted, semisubmersible turbine-carrying catamaran.
Various versions of the Triton, now being tested at 1:10 scale, are being developed by TidalStream in a £12m ($19m) project.
These include the Triton 3, which is meant for 35 to 55-metre tidal flow sites and can generate up to 3MW from a single installation, and the Triton 6, which is designed for deeper waters and can accommodate turbines of up to 10MW.
