Just up the hill from the fishing boats and pleasure craft bobbing in the marina, however, the atmosphere in the offices of the Ocean Renewable Power Company (ORPC) could hardly be more electric.
The company is in the final throes of commissioning the largest ocean-energy device deployed to-date off the US — a 60-kilowatt (kW) tidal generation unit (TGU).
It plans to lower it into the turbulent waters of nearby Cobscook Bay in early March as part of a development programme targeting 200 megawatts (MW) of installed power capacity in the area by 2015.
