BRISTOL: Irish tidal-power technology company OpenHydro is weighing up whether to hoist its landmark one-megawatt open-centre turbine out of the water for a refit after a wireless data communication system failed just over a week after it was deployed in the fast currents of the Bay of Fundy, Canada.
Before the failure, the unit's acoustic modem system (ACS) had been streaming data including tidal speeds, power output and system temperatures between the turbine and a transducer aboard a vessel anchored 20 metres above.
