The seabed-mounted device, installed as part of the Deep-Gen III project in 40 metres of water, is forerunner to a 1MW model currently being built by parent company Rolls-Royce for deployment mid-year.
“This demonstrates the tremendous potential of tidal as a cleaner, greener source of energy,” says Tidal Generation Ltd’s chief executive Robert Stevenson.
“Government support and incentives will be required to create the necessary investment climate to bring the technology to commercial scale, competitive with other renewable sources.”
