Construction of the serpent-like 750 kilowatt device, which is around 180 metres long, will take place at SE’s yard in Renfew and Pelamis’s facilities in Edinburgh’s Leith Docks.

In March, renewable energy giants E.On and Scottish-Power Renewables placed orders for P2s following their awards of Crown Estate acreage off the west coast of Scotland’s Orkney Islands.

Pelamis, which itself won acreage in the round, says development of the three zones could call for deployment of as many as 200 P2 units.
