The equivalent amount of electricity produced by a coal-fired power station would release 58,800 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere every year, according to Snowy Hydro.
The Jounama hydro station, located at Talbingo in New South Wales, is able to offer 55,000MWh of energy over a 12-month period – enough to power more than 6,000 homes.
Electricity from the hydro power station is fed into the local 66 kilovolt transmission network.
