In July 2008, Dorset-based consultants Hydroplan UK submitted an application on behalf of the Ardtornish Estate Company for the ‘Rannoch River’ hydropower plant.

“This scheme will generate clean, green energy, reduce emissions and create 12 new construction jobs – a model of the low-carbon opportunities that exist the length and breadth of Scotland,” says Scottish energy minister Jim Mather.

Scotland’s energy consents unit is currently processing applications for 29 renewables projects – 24 wind farms and five hydropower schemes.
