Fodstad says the project illustrates how Norwegian hydropower can play an important role in an energy system based around the North Sea basin. "We can do a lot more of this," he adds. "Norway could contribute thousands of megawatts."Norway has about half of Europe's capacity of reservoir-based hydropower production. Its advantage over traditional plants that run directly off rivers is that production can be better managed and controlled.
